How it works in game
Vegetation in the new will have the following features :

  • Plants will go through stages (I am thinking around 3?)
  • Plants will eventually die out (Certain plants last longer than others?)
  • Plants will spread after they die ex: Tree A dies then maybe 0-3 more trees will start to grow around it (Goes through the stages as mentioned on the first bullet)
  • Certain plants can crossbreed (Long time concept that MemoryAddress, Jobro, and I have been talking about)
  • Animals will naturally eat certain plants
  • Plants fruits/seeds can be use to replant manually
  • Certain plants require certain needs ex: Berries don't need as much water as flowers (idk if that is accurate but take it as an example)

I have started coding a lot of this, now I just need a few models to actually code on (lol)

So builders and designer do your swag please Smile

Feel free to work on other concepts and such, and expect a tech demo in the near futures Wink

Oh god I'm hitting myself.

I forgot to post that I am already working on this! When the world initiates, a script finds places to create trees on and starts GROWING them (not PLACING them).

Which looks cool, but has some flaws too (trees with branches are quite hard to program as everything intersects when you just "brute force" the branches)

I'll try to put that on the actual Survival Project tech demo (NOT the SE tech demo, which will be a small game USING SE!)

Plants will go through stages (I am thinking around 3?)
Implemented. Stages are random tough and works via a "life-system". Can plant grow? Grow when it has enough "resources" (that is, sunlight and that kind of nonsense). Or else stay like that. Or else: die. Yay.

Plants will eventually die out (Certain plants last longer than others?)
Yus. Depends on location. :GetSunDirection + raycast on clouds is my friend.

Plants will spread after they die ex: Tree A dies then maybe 0-3 more trees will start to grow around it (Goes through the stages as mentioned on the first bullet)
Sort of.

Certain plants can crossbreed (Long time concept that MemoryAddress, Jobro, and I have been talking about)
Didn't implement that yet as it would get too complex for first version, ALTOUGH some very primitive events/properties have been added for that.

Animals will naturally eat certain plants
Will be added.

Plants fruits/seeds can be use to replant manually
Absolutely. "Living" plants also spawn seeds. When seasons are added in autumn they'll drop their nonsense and in spring they will grow. Between those seasons is the time to move these seeds around and mess with the world.

Certain plants require certain needs ex: Berries don't need as much water as flowers (idk if that is accurate but take it as an example)
As mentioned in the first question, yup! Smile

I just got an idea. How about shovels would be used to create small ditches which will allow the water to flow in? Then irrigating the plants?

That has once be suggested in the "old" game. I like the idea, but it is INCREDIBLY hard to make, especially on roblox with the "bricks" system...

We can always try tough, and one can fully concentrate on that project when the API is out.

I don't know either, but you could say something like how a cactus does not needs much water compared to a tree. Also rain will need to be able to water the plants if the rain can get to it. For example, if a flower is under cover of an object, then it will not get water.
